That's why our Respond Center is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our Intake Clinicians are available at all times to speak with the person in crisis, a friend or family member, or a referring professional. Family or others involved in the situation are encouraged to attend the assessment to assure that all details and symptoms are clearly discussed. No referral is required for the assessment, but professionals involved in the patient’s care are encouraged to provide clinical information to facilitate the most appropriate recommendation. We accept both voluntary and involuntary admissions, including referrals from hospitals, mental health clinics and professionals in private practice. Contact the Respond Center to set up a no-cost assessment by calling 910-250-7000. Our Staff No-cost, confidential crisis assessments are conducted by a staff of dedicated and compassionate professionals. Our Respond Center staff is comprised of licensed clinicians including counselors, nurses and psychologists with a wealth of experience in crisis assessment. They are available 24 hours a day to help you or a loved one get the help that you need for behavioral health issues. Treatment Recommendations Following the assessment, our Intake Clinicians will make recommendations for treatment based on the individual’s needs. Recommendations for treatment are made in consultation with a psychiatrist after a thorough assessment has identified current needs. If admission to our hospital is recommended, Respond staff will assist the patient and family through that process, and can also help individuals and families determine financial resources available for health care costs. When admission is not recommended, referrals to appropriate community providers will be provided. Currently the following services are offered at Dorothea Dix Hospital:  Forensic Minimum Security Unit, Child Outpatient Services and Clinical Research Outpatient Services.  All other services have been transferred to Central Regional Hospital.

Dorothea Dix Hospital provides psychiatric care to North Carolinians. We stabilize persons in crisis, assess our patients and provide medical care, psychiatric treatment and counseling. Our staff advocates for our patients and helps them to plan for their discharge and to make connections with the community. What Services Does Central Regional Hospital Provide?

Central Regional Hospital provides psychiatric care to North Carolinians. We treat children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. We stabilize those in crisis, assess our patients and provide medical care, psychiatric treatment and counseling. Our staff helps our patients plan for their discharge and to make connections with the community.

The hospital is a state-of-the-art facility and serving adults and adolescents in

25 counties in the central region of the state. We also serve children 12 and under from all 100 counties of North Carolina. Central Regional Hospital has forensic, research and child specialty units.

 

About Treatment at Central Regional 

Our treatment planning model follows six guiding principles:

  • Interdisciplinary;
  • Individualized to meet the patient’s needs;
  • Problem-focused;
  • The patient is involved in the treatment planning process;
  • Driven by assessment data; and
  • The treatment plan is directed toward the patient’s discharge.

 Through medication, counseling, educational sessions, group therapy, recreation therapy, work therapy, diet, creative expressive art and occupational therapy, we help patients learn how to achieve their discharge goals and better manage their illness.

 A team of psychiatrists, social workers, nurses and other trained professionals work together with the patient and family to develop a comprehensive treatment plan addressing individual and family needs. Doctors and nurses are available 24 hours a day.  

 Continuity of Care

  Help and support does not stop when a patient leaves the hospital. Continuing care is a vital part of the recovery process and is part of the comprehensive treatment plan. Central Regional, in collaboration with community-based  programs and other facilities, works to ease the transition from the hospital to the community. We encourage all patients and families to actively participate in their treatment and recovery.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

  •  Dorothea Dix Hospital 
    Dorothea Dix Hospital serves as the regional psychiatric hospital for the 16-county South Central Region of the Department of Health and Human Services. In collaboration with community-based mental health programs, we provide evaluation, treatment and rehabilitative services for the mentally ill. Neurological, as well as medical and surgical services are provided upon referral from other state facilities in the North Central, Eastern, and South Central regions. In addition, we provide specialized treatment to mentally ill deaf and hard of hearing patients from across the state.

    Holly Hill Hospital provides treatment programs for children, adolescents, and adults covering a wide range of behavioral health issues. Holly Hill is dedicated to providing excellent quality of care in a respectful environment that fosters hope and facilitates effective treatment.

 SAFETY SUPPORT AWARENESS

Interact is a private, non-profit, United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault. Interact fulfills this mission through the support of its volunteers and community.

Problem Pregnancy Services give individuals needed help and support in solving medical, social, educational, and psychological problems associated with unplanned pregnancies. Services include counseling and information to help recipients make voluntary choices regarding adoption, keeping the child, or terminating the pregnancy. Services may also include assistance in arranging for and utilizing other needed services, including residential care.

The Child Protective Services program strives to ensure safe, permanent, nurturing families for children by protecting them from abuse and neglect while attempting to preserve the family unit.

 

  • FAMILY AID

NC Division of Social Services - Child Support Enforcement 

Each year, more than 300,000 North Carolina families struggle to make ends meet because of parents who don't pay their child support. The N.C. Child Support Enforcement Program is committed to it mission to help in securing financial and medical support for the children in these families.

WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children and is also called the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program. WIC is a federal program designed to provide food to low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children until the age of five.

The Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) is a Federally-funded program that provides assistance to low-income households that are in a heating or cooling related emergency. The goal of the CIP program is to help families stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. By doing so, this reduces the risk of health and safety problems such as illness, fire or eviction.

The Food Stamp Program is a federal food assistance program that helps provide food assistance to low-income families. In North Carolina monthly allotments of Food Stamp benefits are issued via  

Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (EBT cards) . The purpose of the Food Stamp Program is to end hunger and improve nutrition and health. It helps eligible low-income households buy the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet.

North Carolina 's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, called Work First , is based on the premise that parents have a responsibility to support themselves and their children. Through Work First, parents can get short-term training and other services to help them become employed and self-sufficient, but the responsibility is theirs, and most families have two years to move off Work First Family Assistance.

  •  Division of Social Services 
North Carolina has 100 counties. Each county has a local Department of Social Services Office. Just select the county that you would like to view phone numbers, physical addresses, and mailing addresses.

In North Carolina, early intervention refers to the system of services provided by many different agencies and programs for children birth to five and their families. This comprehensive, interagency system is called Together We Grow.

Disability Resources, inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established to promote and improve awareness, availability and accessibility of information that can help people with disabilities live, learn, love, work and play independently.

Smart Start is North Carolina's nationally recognized and award-winning early childhood initiative designed to ensure that young children enter school healthy and ready to succeed.

  •   Family and Counsumer Sciences 
    The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences views the family, in all its diverse forms, as the cornerstone of a healthy society. Our mission is to improve the well-being of the family through programs that educate, influence public policy, and help families put research-based knowledge to work in their lives.
  • Adolescent Pregnancy Project 
The Adolescent Pregnancy Project offers information on North Carolina law and resources to pregnant and parenting adolescents and those who care for them. When complete, it will consist of five legal guides accompanied by resource lists, one each for health providers, for social services employees, school employees, the parents of pregnant and parenting adolescents and adolescents themselves.

  •  Poe Center 
The Poe Center for Health Education specializes in developing programs for youth to address health concerns like childhood obesity, physical inactivity, unhealthy food choices, tooth decay, drug and alcohol abuse, unintentional injuries, and teen pregnancy. All programs follow North Carolina's Department of Public Instruction's Healthful Living Curriculum.
